I can't believe that I  have been in Peru for three weeks already! I guess times flies when you are having fun!

Last Sunday, Magdalena and I spent the day going to about 6 different markets in Cusco. The first one is called San Pedro market. It is the main market in Cusco. The place was HUGE! There was a lot of food being sold, as well as a lot of sweaters, backpacks, jewelry and pretty much anything you could imagine!
Sorry for the selfie, but here is the sweater I bought at the market! It is the first Peruvian piece of clothing I own!

Then we went to a slightly smaller market that was just clothes and accessories.
Here is one isle of the market. Every stand is stuffed with goods.

Here is a tapestry that I really liked, but I didn't buy.

We had pizza for lunch at a restaurant near the market.

We walked around Cusco, going from market to market, and ended the day in the Plaza de Amas. It was a beautiful day to walk around and explore the city.
This was a beautiful park in front of a church that we passed on our walk.

We had hot chocolate at the Hotel Plaza de Amas on a balcony overlooking the plaza!

It was SUCH a wonderful view!

Monday, I went to Belenpampa to see the clinic for the first time. That night, Magdalena and I tried a bar called Ukukus for just a drink. Turns out the place is absolutely DEAD until around ten, so we were legitimately the only two people in the place. It was quite funny.
It was a really cool looking place.
Apparently there is frequently live music, but as I said, we were the ONLY ones there at 8 haha!

So, we retreated to a pub to have "la cena."

Tuesday was my first real day at the clinic. They first placed me in the TB clinic, but there wasn't much for me to do there.  It was mostly patients coming to get test results and medications. There were already three Peruvian nursing students there, so there were more than enough helping hands. I was then moved to the pediatric section of the clinic. There were more patients and I asked what I could do to help, but nobody needed anything. My first few days at the clinic were a little disappointing because there wasn't anything for me to do. Tomorrow, I am going to speak to someone about being moved to a different department where I could be more helpful.

Wednesday night, Magdalena, her mother, and I, went to the only museum we could find in the area open past 5! It is called the Precolumbian Art Museum. The architecture of the museum was beautiful, along with the artwork from Pre-Incan times.
There is a courtyard within the museum that is gorgeous.

Some of my favorite pieces in the museum.
We got a bite to eat after at a really good cafe in the plaza.

Thursday, I took a day off from the clinic to help Irma take the kids from the Kindergarten to the zoo! At the zoo, there was a great guide who taught all the kids (and me...) about the animals. We could even touch most of the animals! Magdalena and I probably had more fun then the kids.
The bus ride!

The kids learning about animals!

I can't remember this cute little guy's name, but he loved to come up and smell all the kids.  Most of them screamed.

Magdalena and an Alpaca!

I made a friend.

They also taught the kids a little about how the yarn is made to weave textiles!

This beautiful mama was weaving with her baby at her side.

After the zoo, we stopped at a field so the kids could eat lunch.
This one, Killa, is a trouble maker, but she wouldn't stop hugging me, so I didn't mind :)

Marlon kept shaking his soda so it would explode.

Then we flew kites... but as you could guess by the sky, it started to pour!

This weekend I have been laying kind of low. I finally joined a gym here! It is only a five minute walk from my house, so that's awesome. In the afternoon, Andrea and I did some baking. Both things didn't turn out great. We made brownies from a box, but we didn't get the temperature right in the oven. They didn't cook and didn't cook, and then suddenly, they were a brick! Then we made a cake from scratch. Turns out, I bought the wrong kind of bananas, I bought the kind for frying, not baking.

Here are the brownies... They also fell out of the pan when I was trying to get them out, and half landed in the sink. Disaster.

The cake looks a lot better. I really didn't like it, but no one else seemed to mind it that much (or they were just being nice).

Of course, fourteen family members came by last night for tea, and tried "the cake and brownies Julia and Andrea made!" We had a laughing fit over how hard the brownies were. They tasted good, but they were impossible to chew! It was a really nice time sitting around and laughing and talking with cousins and aunts and uncles.

Today, I walked around for a while and bought a few things I needed at the shopping center near by. We are about to have a big lunch with a lot of family! Tomorrow is my second week at the clinic. Hopefully things improve a bit in that department!
